The Pinot Noir 2007 is more expressive than their 2006 with scents of raspberry, red cherries wild strawberries and a touch of violets. Good definition and very good lift, though it might be just a tad overripe? The palate is medium-bodied, very cohesive with good weight, stylistically more akin to Martinborough than Central Otago. There is a slight hardness on the finish, but a year in bottle and some aeration will hopefully sort that out. Good potential. Drink 2010-2014. From 12-hectares of vine on the north-facing slopes of Gibbston Valley comes Coal Pit, the wines are made by Lynne Horton. A 30-tonne winery will come on stream for the 2008 vintage, so this is a name to watch for. These are bottled under Diam incidentally. No known American importer.
