The 2007 Solanes (which means “sunny”) is a blend of 45% Carinena, 30% Garnacha, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah/Merlot raised for 14 months in new, second and third fill barrels. It has a simple, almost Cru Bourgeois-like bouquet with fine delineation. It has a slightly coarse entry, but there is plenty of crisp, earthy black fruit with a clean, crisp finish to keep you satisfied. Fine. Drink now-2016. Cims de Porrera is the name of the co-operative located in the namesake village that is managed by the Perez family (see Mas Martinet). The current winemaker is Adria Perez, son of Jose-Luis. Cims de Porrera’s 2007 Solanes is a blend of 45% Carinena, 30% Garnacha, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Merlot and Syrah aged for 14 months in a combination of seasoned barriques and 7000-liter new French oak tanks. Opaque purple in color with an inviting nose of mineral, damp earth, tobacco, and assorted black fruits, on the palate it is tight and structured but with enough balance to evolve for 3-4 years, a solid achievement in a challenging vintage.
