The 2016 Poggio Granoni, a 70-10-10-10 blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, is a beautifully plump and ripe wine with generous red fruit, plum, blackberry and wild rose. The primary fruit is polished and beautifully intense, giving this wine a special sense of vitality and energy. It's hard to make out any one single variety used in the blend, although I did taste the acidity and freshness associated with Sangiovese and the succulent softness that you might expect of the Merlot. I'm picturing a pasta dish with lamb ragù for this one. Some 10,000 bottles were made.
