The 2006 Poggio Granoni is a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah that spent 18 months in French oak, 40% of which was new. This structured, fresh wine is imbued with dark plums, spices, herbs and French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.
Castello di Farnatella is the second property of Giuseppe Mazzocolin, who is best known for the reference-point wines he produces at Felsina. The Farnatella wines have improved quite a bit since I first started tasting them a few years ago. At their best, the entry-level wines can offer excellent value.
