Tasted from magnum, the 1993 Poggio Granoni blew me away. The blend used here is mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a tiny percentage of Syrah. The 1993 vintage represents the first year of production for Poggio Granoni and the wine was only made in the larger format bottles. I love the level of evolution shown by this wine. The bouquet is classy and approachable with aged notes of dried cherry, licorice, menthol tones and balsam herb. The wine is drinking beautifully right now thanks to the balanced freshness and silky tannins.
