Typically Californian, the 2002 Chardonnay Ovation exhibits abundant quantities of tropical fruit, a hint of orange marmalade, good density as well as excellent definition and purity. The 100% barrel-fermented, lees-aged, Burgundian-styled Chardonnay Ovation is the finest Chardonnay offering Phelps produces. The Ovation cuvee can last 4-5 years, but a bottle of the 2000 drunk recently was falling apart. In contrast, a 1993 drunk recently was in full form! Perhaps the 2000 had been stored poorly since I had it in a restaurant. In any event, the Chardonnay Ovation is generally delicious, complex, and of high quality. Tel.
