The 2001 Chardonnay Ovation, from a vintage that provided good acid profiles, is European in style. Notes of white peaches, lemon oil, and orange rinds jump from the glass of this pure, ripe, medium to full-bodied Chardonnay that is both elegant and concentrated. Enjoy it over the next 1-3 years. The 100% barrel-fermented, lees-aged, Burgundian-styled Chardonnay Ovation is the finest Chardonnay offering Phelps produces. The Ovation cuvee can last 4-5 years, but a bottle of the 2000 drunk recently was falling apart. In contrast, a 1993 drunk recently was in full form! Perhaps the 2000 had been stored poorly since I had it in a restaurant. In any event, the Chardonnay Ovation is generally delicious, complex, and of high quality. Tel.
