The 2007 VIOGNIER ECLECTIQUE – SPILITSA, another Viognier from Skouras, who does quite well with the grape, is bright and pleasing, but the dominant impression here is oak. As with Agiorgitiko, this is not a grape that handles oak overly well, and great care must be taken to avoid overwhelming its aromatics. The acidity is the saving grace, as it does cut through the oak and give the wine some life, but this still has a certain stolid feel and its flavors are dominated by oak. This is screwcapped and comes in at just 12.5% alcohol. I suspect this will hold longer, but I’d be careful and drink it very young for best results. Drink now-2010.
