The 2006 MEGAS OENOS is, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and old vines Agiorgitiko (80%) aged in French oak for 20 months. Note that the winery tends to translate Agiorgitiko into English as Saint George. Rather elegant in the mid-palate, as these usually are, this shows a touch of creamy vanilla from oak, which the wine handles generally quite well, but it will need a year or two in the cellar to show better integration of the oak and the fruit. There is very fine fruit here. The wine is a pleasure to smell, cherries and vanilla mingling on the nose. Those flavors follow through onto the palate, the cherry notes lingering on the finish. There is good tannic support. It drank well the next day, although still a bit too nuanced by oak. This graceful, well balanced wine should develop well in the cellar, but it should be approachable young, too. Drink 2010-2019. Importer: Diamond Importers, Chicago, IL; tel: (773) 549-6211
