The 2008 Barolo Brunate is a big, plush wine that shows the muscle of this great vineyard on the Barolo/La Morra border. Black cherries, violets, mint and licorice are all woven together in a rich tapestry of aromas and flavors that is striking. The 2008 possesses considerable inner sweetness, juiciness and palate presence for the vintage, not to mention terrific overall balance. The approach to vinification and aging seems very well tailored to the qualities of this site. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.
These 2008s from Damilano required considerable aeration to show the full breadth of their potential. At times, the wines still seem excessively oaked.
