The 2000 Roero Roche d’Ampsej may have suffered in the period of hiatus which the house underwent. The notes of plums and wild cherries on the nose are certainly varietal, but slightly evolved, a bit overripe and alcoholic, and the texture is somewhat drier and tougher than usual. Bottle time may help, but only up to a certain point. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2012. The Correggia family is fortunately back at work after the tragic death of Matteo Corregia in a freak tractor accident, operating with an in-house oenologist and the outside assistance of Giorgio Rivetti. The wines remain among the most important of the Roero, the zone just across the Tanaro river from Barolo.A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
