The 2004 Casalferro is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot that spent 18 months in French oak. It is a dark, backward wine but with air reticent notes of dark fruit and chocolate emerge. Sweet overtones of licorice and toasted oak linger on the long finish. This is a generous, enveloping wine but it needs a few years in bottle to fully come together. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2024.
