There are unusual minty and spicy aromas on the nose of the 2013 Clos Fontà that I don't associate with Priorat. It has echoes of nutmeg, eucalyptus and cola nut that make me think of a vermouth, with lots of aromatic herbs and a Mediterranean character. It's a blend of Garnacha (both peluda and país, different strains) with 30% Cari?ena from their oldest vines, planted between 1931 and 1973 on slate soils. It fermented in oak vats and matured in French and Austrian oak barrels and 1,500-liter vats for some 14 months. The balsamic and minty characteristics are a bit unusual and might surprise many, but the wine is very balanced and has a superb palate with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. 6,780 bottles were filled in May 2015.
