The 1993 Perdera, made from an indigenous grape, is reminiscent of a peppery, spicy, medium to full-bodied, southern Cotes du Rhone. This deeply-colored wine offers an attractive, earthy, leathery, ripe berry-scented nose, copious amounts of spicy, ripe fruit, and a supple texture with good glycerin and potent alcohol. Drink it now and over the next 4-5 years. Previous vintages of these wines from Sicily were impressive, so I am delighted to see that my early enthusiasm has been reinforced by recent releases.A Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel.
