Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Marc Colin's 2014 Montrachet Grand Cru has an outstanding bouquet with mineral-driven gunflint scents that are just beautifully delineated. The use of oak here is very astute and it opens gloriously in the glass, thrilling at every turn. The palate is brilliantly balanced with crisp acidity, vibrant and tensile with a saline note that spreads its wings toward the deep, concentrated finish. To be honest, among the quartet of Montrachet tasted blind, this was the only one that really confirmed its status. Astonishing.
