The 2007 Barolo Riva del Bric is an attractive wine. It possesses less fruit and mid-palate pliancy than the Ginestra, but makes up for that, to some extent, with its focus and minerality. This translucent, mid-weight Barolo is best enjoyed over the next few years as it doesn’t appear to have the stuffing to support extended cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Proprietor Giorgio Conterno’s strength lies with the Nebbioli from his holdings in the Ginestra vineyard. Cherry and raspberry fruit are augmented by licorice and tobacco notes in this supple, yet firmly structured, red. This is balanced and lingers with floral and mineral accents.
