The 2007 Barolo Riva del Bric is an attractive wine. It possesses less fruit and mid-palate pliancy than the Ginestra, but makes up for that, to some extent, with its focus and minerality. This translucent, mid-weight Barolo is best enjoyed over the next few years as it doesn’t appear to have the stuffing to support extended cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
Proprietor Giorgio Conterno’s strength lies with the Nebbioli from his holdings in the Ginestra vineyard. Conterno makes a wide range of selections, but the straight Barolo Ginestra is his finest wine year in, year out.
