The 1998 vintage did not give the producer fruit of the same superb quality, as evidenced by the 1998 Barolo Per Cristina. The dark color is promising, but the nose is just a touch too ripe and the tannins, despite the overall intensity of the flavors, less ample, generous, and round. Still an infant, with mineral, sweet Thai basil and dark fruit. Full, yet superfocused and tight, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Layered and powerful. Chewy too. Give it time still.
