The 2008 Barbaresco Maria Adelaide is gorgeous in this vintage. Dark cherries, plums, violets and dark red/black berries all take shape in the glass. The 2009 is vibrant, perfumed and totally beautiful. Over time, the wine's mineral nuances emerge more fully, adding considerable complexity. This isn't a huge wine, but the 2008 does have a Pinot-like sweetness that is common in this vintage. A beautifully sculpted, precise finish rounds things out in style. The 2008 is the last vintage to be aged in 100% new oak. As such, the 2008 stands apart from Bruno Rocca's other wines from a stylistic view, but it is compelling just the same. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.
Time waits for no one. I remember when Bruno Rocca's children were kids, now they are all grown up and actively involved in the family business, which is great to see. Luisa looks after the commercial side of the winery, while Francesco seems to have inherited his father's passion for the vineyard.
