The 2014 Duas Quintas Reserva is a blend of Touriga Nacional (80%), Touriga Franca (13%) and Tinta da Barca, aged for 16 months in a mixture of new and second use oak (mostly French with 10% Austrian). The bar in 2014, a very difficult Douro vintage, is rather low, but this shows well. It has reasonable concentration for the year, a smooth, unctuous texture and nice focus. The tannins are moderate. This can be drunk young, although a few months more to come around wouldn't hurt. There is some flavor hiding in there, too. Too many 2014s are a bit shy in that department and that is partly true here, too. For all of its merits, this lacks some concentration and it will have to prove in the cellar that has the capacity to improve. These historically do--it is more likely than not--but this is probably not the best year to be thinking "vin de garde." At the moment, let's be conservative.
