The 1994 Duas Quintas Reserva is a blend of Touriga Nacional (50%), Touriga Francesa (30%) and Tinta Barroca (20%). About 40% of the wine was aged in 225-liter Portuguese and French oak casks for nine months (new to two-years-old). This is revisited this issue as part of our vertical. This continues where the 1994 regular Tinto stopped. It lacks that wine's purity, but it provides an extra layer of concentration, a little more power and a smoother, somewhat more sensual texture. It is also just a bit fresher. They are both wonderful, different sides of the same coin. This should have plenty of life left and it deserves an extension of the drinking window, having answered all questions that I had. We'll continue to take its future in stages, but it is a well constructed beauty with intensity on the finish that keeps proving it can last and last. Remember, though, that as wines age, it is sometimes about the bottle and not the wine. This was sourced direct from the winery. Not every consumer will replicate that provenance.
