The 1992 Duas Quintas Reserva is revisited this issue for a checkup. This is an interesting contrast to the 1994. It is certainly a very different bottle than I saw it the first time around--as they say, sometimes it is about the bottle. Not nearly as concentrated as the 1994 or 1997 (granting that the 1994 was not tasted at the same time), it nonetheless has a sunnier and more elegant demeanor. It is silky in texture and very complex at this point. It tightens a bit on the finish with aeration, but it isn't about the power any more. It is holding nicely and should continue to do so for most of the next decade or so, maybe longer. I wasn't really sure it had that much longevity in it the first time I saw it. That said, I gave all of the oldies a workout and with extended aeration, this was the only one that started to show occasional cracks at the end; however, they were small and only at the very end. Had I tasted it quickly and moved on, it would've seemed even more impressive. It's hard not to appreciate this now for the gracefully aging, carefully focused wine that it is.
