The 2012 Duas Quintas Reserva is the latest and last of the vertical this issue, set for release in the USA at the end of this year or early 2016. It is a blend of Touriga Nacional (60%), Touriga Franca (30%) and Tinta da Barca (10%), aged for 20 months in new 225-liter French and Austrian oak casks. This, following a theme, is much oakier than the regular Tinto, but it is otherwise showing off many similar ideas. The oak, however, does cover the wonderful fruit that makes the regular Tinto so enticing right now. At the moment, the regular Tinto is far superior. That answer may change in a decade (and I suspect it will). The structure here is beautiful and it has plenty of time to pull in some oak. I do like to take things in stages in drinking windows, but it is clear that this is going to do well. How well will be an issue we can explore more in the future. Let's still exercise a little conservatism.
