The maiden 1999 Calvario has dusky black, earthy fruit on the nose that is mellow and nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, attractive fleshy blackberry and mulberry fruit, with a little dryness curtailing the finish. Drink now-2014.
Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.
