Moving to the 2012s, the straight 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape (70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and the balance other permitted varieties) has outstanding potential with beautiful ripeness, medium to full-body and a rich, rounded profile. Leafy herbs, pepper, underbrush and hints of meatiness are just some of the aromas here and while it should be reasonably approachable on release, it should evolve gracefully for over a decade. Drink 2015-2022.
One of my favorite estates, these classic, traditional efforts are made by Jean-Paul Versino.
