Rhone Ranger enthusiasts will go bonkers over the three splendid Syrahs from the 1995 vintage. The 1995 Syrah Roll Ranch is an explosively rich wine with terrific intensity, a black/purple color, super purity, no hard edges, full body, high glycerin, and moderate tannin, the latter component largely concealed behind the wine's impressive fruit extraction. This is a young, grapy Syrah that should evolve beautifully for the 10-12 years. The Ojai Vineyard has been producing excellent to outstanding wines over recent years, and they seem intent on climbing to the top of California's qualitative pyramid.
