The 2008 Morellino di Scansano Capatosta is a rich, powerful wine bursting with dark wild cherries, flowers, spices and French oak. The Capatosta is 95% old-vine Sangiovese and 5% Alicante, fermented in open-top French oak barrels, and then also aged in barrel, which likely accounts for the degree to which the wine is marked by oak. As good as this is, it seems pretty clear this fruit is capable of even more. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016. These are two attractive wines from Poggio Argentiera. Readers should expect to see a more understated approach to winemaking in the coming years.Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900
