The estate’s 2006 Morellino di Scansano Capatosta is simply awesome. A dark, full-bodied Morellino, the Capatosta reveals superb density in its black cherries, grilled herbs, leather and tar in a sumptuous, structured style. Ideally the wine needs another year or so for the oak tannins to melt away, but this is compelling juice. Capatosta is a selection of the estate’s finest fruit (95% Sangiovese, 5% Alicante) that is fermented and subsequently aged in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016.
