The 2000 Vino Nobile Salco, which has replaced the Riserva in the line, is made from grapes picked very late, at the end of October, to push the envelope of ripeness to the limit. It is partly aged in small barrels. Darker in color than the regular bottling and with powerful aromas of plums, tar, and roasted coffee, it is also significantly more concentrated and intense on the attack, forceful and sustained right through to the finish with ample plum and tar flavors and a fine tannic firmness. Still a bit backward, it will drink best between 2006 and 2012.
