The 1988 Zinfandel offers surprisingly deep color, a rich, berry, herb, black-raspberry-scented nose, and oaky, full-bodied, concentrated flavors. The copious quantities of fruit are buttressed by soft tannins, thus the overall impression is one of authentic varietal character made in a bright, rich, full-bodied style. It is hard to believe this much intensity could have been achieved in this vintage. Drink this beauty over the next 10 years. Grgich Hills rarely seems to miss a beat, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the vintage.
