Grgich Hills has consistently made one of California's finest Zinfandels, utilizing fruit from relatively old vineyards located on non-irrigated hillsides. The wine has traditionally been made in an intense, ripe, full-bodied style that can support 7-10 years of cellaring. The 1990 offers a deep ruby color, an intense nose of black raspberries and spices, a rich, medium to full-bodied palate feel, and a moderately tannic, excellent finish. The peppery, raspberry fruitiness is reminiscent of a fine Rhone Valley red wine. Despite the obvious richness and power, this is a wine with a sense of elegance. Tel. 707-963-2784.
