I loved the 2013 St Joseph Terres d’Arce. Coming from a great terroir in Saint Joseph -- the Sainte Epine lieu-dit located just outside of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols -- it was completely destemmed, vinified all in tank and saw 12 months in new French oak barrels. It’s still showing the oak elevage, yet has terrific freshness and purity in its black raspberry, black cherry, pepper and graphite-driven bouquet. This gives way to a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated Saint Joseph that has integrated acidity, moderate tannin and a deliciously drinkable profile. If you’re oak adverse, give it a year or two in the cellar. It will have 10-12 or more years of overall longevity.
