Abrigo’s 2006 Barbaresco Montersino is a dark, powerful offering loaded with black cherries, spices, smoke, tar and licorice, all of which are wrapped around an imposing frame. Today the tannins lack a measure of polish, but that should come with further bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021. This is another set of impressive wines from Abrigo. All of the 2006 Barbarescos are made in a fairly powerful, tannic style. Within the context of Barbaresco, these single-vineyard bottlings are not that different from each other, or put another way, what comes through most is the style of the producer rather than that of the vineyards themselves.
