More dense and concentrated than the Signature, yet not as perfumed or complex, the beautiful 2005 Vacqueyras les Genestes is an old-vine blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah that spent 18 months in concrete tank. It exhibits a ripe, sexy profile of blackberry, kirsch liqueur, black licorice and roasted herbs to go with a medium to full-bodied, thrillingly textured feel on the palate. This is another blockbuster Vacqueyras that will continue to impress through 2020.

One of the more consistent estates in Vacqueyras is the 22.5-acre Domaine des Amouriers. There is one cuvee of Vacqueyras, the Les Genestes, which is always a blend of 65% Grenache and the rest Syrah. The 2005 Vacqueyras Les Genestes is a denser, more structured, deeper wine than the 2006. An identical blend, the wine has higher acidity, more noticeable tannin, and overall is a superior wine, but 2-3 years of patience is suggested.
