This is irrefutably one of the finest white wine making estates in Burgundy. Run by Gerard Boudot, this 26-acre estate consistently turns out some of the richest, most elegant red wines of the Cote d'Or. One of the best kept secrets here is their Puligny-Montrachet-La Truffieres, made from a microscopic .6 acre parcel of old vines. I did not see that offering in 1989, but should any readers run across a bottle, it is usually of grand cru quality.
The 1989 Puligny-Montrachet-Champs Canet, which is a super-ripe, lusty, chunky bottle of Chardonnay, lacks the usual Sauzet elegance and finesse, although there is plenty of depth. It should be consumed over the next 4-5 years. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Chester, VT.
