They had to sort and do a severe selection of grapes to manage a fresh wine in the ripe and heady vintage that produced the red 2011 Coma Vella. It is a blend of different strains of Garnacha with 30% Cari?ena and 10% Syrah that matured in 225-, 1,500- and 3,000-liter oak barrels and vats for some 12 months. It has the earthiness of Priorat, with notes of slate and Mediterranean herbs, some dusty tannins, a spicy oak touch and very good freshness, especially for a very warm vintage like 2011. Here the soils are more red slate, not as hard and compact as others, and the wines have a little more volume. A triumph over the conditions of the vintage. There are 40,318 bottles produced.
