Since the estate didn't have enough top Mourvedre in the vintage to make their Cuvee Renaissance, the extra Mourvedre went into the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape. This was a great showing by this wine and its dark ruby color was followed by classic black cherry and blackberry-like fruit, peppery herbs, flowers and spice aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, layered, with beautiful purity and a great finish, it's a classic Chateauneuf du Pape that will have 15-20 years of longevity.

The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a medium ruby color along with soft, berry fruit, Provencal herb, pepper, and spice box characteristics. It is a charming, round, seductive 2006 to enjoy over the next 4-5 years. As I have indicated over the last few years, this is one of the superb newer producers in Chateauneuf du Pape. Their cellars are in the village of Courthezon, which is located adjacent to the very northeast sector of the appellation. Their 2007s are spectacular wines. Cristia’s style typically features dynamic cherry fruit; the 2006’s aromas include an almost floral element as well, plus hints of almond paste.
