Tasted at the Academie du Vin dinner in Bordeaux, the Domaine de Chevalier 1935 was proffered by Olivier Bernard himself, the oldest vintage that night and not one you see often. A healthy deep brick color, the nose is one not to be sniffed at. Or maybe you should: Lapson Souchang, leather, damp moss and vestiges of red berry fruit are a pleasant surprise, even if they deteriorate after 15 minutes in the glass. The palate is not quite so "jolly." It is a little raw with a slightly shallow and mean finish. That said, it is perfectly drinkable and in its context, performs better than expected. Of course, after 20 minutes it was skeletal and yet for a fleeting moment it gave its last gasp of pleasure. Tasted April 2015.
