The 1988 Vosne-Romanée Village came from magnum and, interestingly, it had a much healthier, more youthful color compared to the 1988 Grands Echézeaux. The nose is glorious with red berries, desiccated orange peel and a tang of damp undergrowth. There is such exuberance and vitality here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin, structured like the aforementioned Grand Cru but with fresh tart red cherry fruit, a killer line of acidity and superb focus on the finish. Difficult to really believe this is a mere village Cru--it is wonderful! Tasted October 2016.
