The estate’s 2003 Barolo Lecinquevigne, made from a blend of five vineyards, is a soft, medium-weight Barolo that is a good choice for near-term drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2013. Damilano’s 2003 Barolos are made in a soft, accessible style suitable for near or mid-term drinking. Although they are well made, I expected wines of more complexity and character. Big and dense with a chunky texture, this is a pleasant, fruit forward wine with traces of licorice and lavender. Most of its energy is dissipated at the front of the palate, so there is a period of hollwness in mid-palate before it comes bouncing back to a solid finish.
