The 1992 Pinot Noir Ridge Crest Vineyard would have received a higher score, but it gives off a slight cardboard scent that I often associate with filter pads. That's a shame because the wine possesses an impressively saturated dark ruby/purple color, a mouthfilling, chunky personality with gobs of earthy, black-cherry fruit, fine glycerin, and a moderately tannic, smoky, rich finish. The wine was unquestionably made from high quality raw materials, but I am perplexed by the cardboard component in what is an otherwise impressive bouquet. Let's hope it dissipates as this wine is capable of lasting another 6-8 years. Tel. (503) 538-4700.
