Cut from the same cloth is the 2006 Rasteau Les Esqueyrons, which is essentially the equivalent of a single-vineyard Rasteau. Again it is Grenache that gets top billing in this inky ruby/purple-colored wine, which shows notes of creme de cassis, black cherry liqueur, smoke, licorice, incense, and a hint of flowers. Very rich, with fabulous intensity, purity, and depth, this wine should drink well for 10-15+ years.
An estate of 50 acres in Rasteau that merits serious attention, recent vintages have all been stunning, and a lot of that is due to the brilliant work of well-known Southern Rhone consultant Philippe Cambie.
