Also outstanding is the 2005 Rasteau les Esqueyrons, but again, very much in keeping with the vintage, the tannins dominate. The wine has plenty of power and concentration, but it needs to be forgotten in the cellar for 2-3 years. It will never have the charm and intensity of its younger sibling in 2006, but it is a more masculine, virile effort in this vintage and should keep for at least 10-12 years.
An estate of 50 acres in Rasteau that merits serious attention, recent vintages have all been stunning, and a lot of that is due to the brilliant work of well-known Southern Rhone consultant Philippe Cambie.
