I do not think richer, more intense 1989 and 1988 Cabernets can be found than these from Philip Togni. For an even more massive and concentrated wine than the Tan Bark Hill, check out the 1988 Cabernet Sauvignon (386 cases produced). The huge bouquet of melted road tar, chocolate-covered raisins, plums, prunes and vanillin is knock-out stuff. In the mouth, the huge, rich, concentrated flavors seem to have more in common with a great California Cabernet year such as 1985 than the lighter 1988 vintage. Spectacularly long and rich with soft tannins, this massive, but surprisingly well-balanced wine should be at its best between 1993 and 2010. Wow! This guy can sure make super Cabernet!
