Perhaps it is too soon to see noticeable improvements under the new ownership of the Louis Roederer firm, but tasting through this wine portfolio was not much fun. The whites are all relatively monolithic. More impressive than the regular cuvee and intensely aromatic, the 1996 Condrieu Clos Bouche exhibits a nose of white pepper, peaches, and honeysuckle. It is medium-bodied, with high acidity, and a more backward style than the regular cuvee. After another 6-9 months of bottle age, it may merit an even higher score; it should last for 2-3 years.
