The Pierre Morey 2006 Meursault Les Tessons smells of honeysuckle and fresh apricot, It offers nutty depth and ripe pit fruit richness in conjunction with palpable density, and adamant, tactile crushed stone character (appropriate for a vineyard whose name means “the shards”). There seems to be more than enough stuffing and brightness here to suggest holding it for 4-5 years, but will it loosen up and become more fun to drink?
Pierre Morey – who recently announced his retirement after many years as cellar master at Domaine Leflaive – continues to craft Morey actively stirs the lees until Christmas, then lets the wines tell him when and whether to continue, which for the most part he did not in 2006.
