The 2004 Barolo Le Coste is a new bottling for the estate, and is made from one of Monforte’s historic vineyards. The wine possesses outstanding density and length in its vibrant dark cherries, menthol, chocolate and toasted oak. While this isn’t the most complex or powerful Monforte Barolo, the wine does offer superb harmony and refined, sweet tannins. The Le Coste sees a longish fermentation of about 25 days and is aged in a combination of casks and smaller barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018. Brothers Orlando and Attilio Pecchenino run this small property in Dogliani, where they make some of the most powerful, intense wines readers are likely to come across.Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel.
