The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape (a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre) was not showing as well as it did prior to bottling. Somewhat attenuated, with resiny, spicy notes and some serious tannin issues to resolve, the wine does have depth, ripeness, and notes of black cherry jam intermixed with licorice and mineral. If the tannins integrate, the wine will merit a slightly higher score, but I have reservations. Importer: Alain Junguenet, Wines of France, Mountainside, NJ; tel. (908) 654-6173
