The brilliant 2005 Syrah Hilltops is fermented and aged with pressings from the lees of their Roussanne grapes. This obviously adds some uplifted aromatics to the wine as well as complexity. This aromatic wine, with its floral, licorice, pepper, blackberry and cassis notes intermixed with some tropical fruit, is stunning in the mouth. Opulent, rich, with terrific fruit, impressive glycerin, and a heady, spicy finish with no hard edges, it is a brilliant, seamlessly constructed wine to drink over the next 7-8 years.
