The estate’s 2004 La Grola (70% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, 10% Syrah, 5% Sangiovese) is made from super-ripe fruit harvested from a modern, densely-planted vineyard. It is a decidedly structured wine that explodes from the glass with an array of earthiness, blackberry preserves, sweet toasted oak and new leather in a more linear, deep style than Palazzo della Torre. It too is a superb value. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2014.
This is a terrific set of consistently excellent to outstanding wines from Allegrini. Readers will also find a number of value-priced wines that offer notable quality for the money.
