The outstanding 2009 Vacqueyras Les Genets, which I loved when I tasted it last year, is living up to its potential. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of kirsch, garrigue, pepper, earth and a hint of truffle. Some tannin is noticeable, but the wine’s full-bodied, extravagant fruit character suggests it should drink well for at least a decade.
As I noted last year, there has been tremendous progress and a definitive amelioration of quality with respect to the Chateauneuf du Papes being produced by Delas.
